Announcing two new initiatives: (Some good news, for a change!)

With the new societal norms imnposed by the pandemic we find ourselves:

  • Working from home
  • Spending leisure time at home
  • Video conferencing
  • Distance learning

Art supplies

I have done a deal with my wholesale supplier to deliver all the art supplies we use directly to your home. At very competitive prices too!

Derivan Artist paint

Eventually each painting in the syllabus will have all the required colours listed in the lesson plan.

  • Inglis Academy Paint kits
  • Brushes: our standard set
  • Brushes: Advanced (Fan, square nylon, filbert, liner, foam)
  • Easels
  • Aprons
  • Glaze
  • Impasto
  • Disposable Palettes
  • Palette Knives
  • etc.

Video lessons on demand

As you will remember, about a month ago I started posting video content showing our painting process step by step through Monet: Meadow with Poplars, 1875.

I have been holding off on more content, awaiting the arrival of Derivan Artist Series paint, which will be our new standard paint, with Derivan Matisse used when needed. I've been in touch with Derivan' CEO and the paint is on the way.

3 stage rollout

I will roll the content out in 3 stages, by audience groups:

  1. Gallery Quality Painting clients
  2. People who have passed the audition and received an invitation to join the Gallery Quality Painting programme.
  3. General public

I am undecided about Stage 3: General Public. I already have 14 Art ebooks available to the public, and over 1,000 articles on the website. My first focus is focus on the needs of my valued Gallery Quality Painting clients.

Studio update March 25th, 2020

As of this week all classes are suspended as per the government guidelines on social distancing.

What do you need to do?

New clients who are booked into an audition:

You need to do nothing at the moment.

  • I will cancel your current booking.
  • You will have 12 months to reschedule by emailing me.
  • Wait until I start adding new sessions. There is no hurry, there will be enough sessions. There is no point me scheduling new sessions until the timelines become clearer.
  • Check this newsletter or the Inglis Academy Blog or our private Facebook group to keep up to date.

OR

  • Request a refund from Groupon or Lux. If you get a refund, please notify me by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Gallery Quality Painting clients:

You need to do nothing at the moment.

  • I have extended your current package expiry date by 12 months.
  • I will cancel your current coaching sessions.
  • The credit will be reapplied to your packages.

The studio and our 3 layers of protection. March 16th 2020

In light of the current flu situation, I'd like to spell out here the precautions I am taking in the coaching sessions.

You have 3 layers of protection here.

1: The default environment

Please bear in mind that:

  • Sessions are limited to just 5 students
  • I am the only person in the room the rest of the week, it is not a public place.
  • The studio is in the most low-traffic part of the building, at the very end of the last corridor, so there is no passing traffic.

... so the environment here is already safer than just about anywhere else.

I did study quite a bit of biology, and am an avid science geek, so I have always been proactive in maintaining a safe all-spectrum environment for myself and my treasured students!

2: Extra protocols

Extra measures I have taken since January 1st:

  • Providing disposable surgical gloves
  • Providing disposable cups
  • Providing individually wrapped biscuits
  • Disinfecting the restrooms and door handles.
  • Disinfecting all surfaces in the studio.

3: What you can do

Measures you can take if you feel the need:

  • Wear a disposable mask
  • Wash your hands before arrival, or in the restroom.
  • Microwave the water to boiling point when making a cup of tea or coffee.

2020: End of Bronze | More challenges & flowers

On Sunday we had a great time with Monet: Haystacks: Midday, 1890 | Palette Knife masterclass. Check out the results!

This success reinforces my decision to raise the painting stakes in 2020. You guys thrive on challenges and enjoy the process of learning via repertoire. You also work well under time pressure. You are the elite! You are indeed the Gallery Quality Painters!

Good, it makes me smarter just being in the room with you, thereby fulfilling my New Year's Resolution no.1. Thank you all!

So next year, expect:

  • The gradual introduction of of Derivan Artist and Derivan Structure (Matisse) where appropriate. This paint runs up to $200.00 per litre compared to the $36.00 per litre paint we use now.
  • More challenging paintings
  • Warm colours - there is a preponderance of cool in the repertoire at the moment. Warm colours do make your living space more cozy, so I'll be addressing that imbalance
  • More use of modifiers: glaze, impasto, gloss medium.
  • The replacement of Bronze Packages (50% discount) with Silver Packages (25% discount) as the main option for GQP students.
  • Single session price will remain at $159.00
  • Yes, you can purchase multiple Bronze packages till the end of December, and their expiry dates will daisy-chain for you. Or you can go for Gold which guarantees you 8 sessions over 12 months at the 50% off rate)

All the pricing structures will be reviewed again at July 1st, 2020.
