CAGED: the fundamental chord shapes
These diagrams show the 5 basic chord shapes on the guitar, using C major as the example.
These 5 shapes are what is known as the CAGED system, interlocking chord shapes that cover the entire neck in one key.
C major in 1st position
A shape - C major in the 3rd position is based on the shape of an open A chord
G shape - C major in the 5th position is based on the shape of an open G chord
E shape - C major in the 8th position is based on the shape of an open E chord
D shape - C major in the 10th position is based on the shape of an open D chord
