Portrait Artist Grade 1

Entry requirements: see Art Syllabus

Description: People often ask about portrait painting and my reply is "you need certain skill sets to enjoy it", and this is true. Now, by working through our Masterwork and Floral paintings you will have enough skills in brush work and colour mixing to tackle portraits and have fun!

The human face is something we see every day. We are really good at telling one face from another.

Why then are they so difficult to draw or paint?

Sketch of an eye by Peter Inglis - Learn this at Inglis Academy.

Two reasons:

  1. Seeing: The left brain keeps jumping in and making it hard to actually see the face.
  2. Rendering: To express a face in paint requires some sophisticated tool sets.

Luckily for you I have developed an interesting and quick path to portrait painting:

About our 'Paint a Masterwork' sessions

In our "Paint a Masterwork" sessions our students complete their own unique interpretation of a masterwork painting by Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne or an Australian landscape in just 4 hours.

Take the 'Paint a Masterwork' class and finish a masterwork painting in one lesson. All you have to do is turn up, and 4 hours later you will take home a Van Gogh, Monet or Cezanne created with your own mind and hands! Whether you are a total beginner, an art student or already a practicing professional, seize the day and lift your game! No experience necessary! My innovative approach to the Western traditions will give your creative expression a huge boost. How do we do it? By using a process oriented system based on Maslovian psychology and a deep practical knowledge of the methods used by the Masters of Western art.

After only 4 hours these students had completed their own unique interpretation of an Masterwork by Van Gogh. Inglis Academy teaches you the same processes that were used by Monet, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
