About this session
One of my versions. Simpler. Still nice. You can do a painting like this, or a better one, in 4 hours with my instruction.
Detail.
Resources
I have written an ebook which shows you this lesson, step by step.
Including the boats.
Read a free sample of the ebook or buy it at : www.smashwords.com/books/view/488712 or, if you prefer, get the Amazon Kindle version.
What will we learn in this session?
A 2 minute sketch on paper.
1 minute for the pencil sketch, 1 minute for the thin wash of colours.
Blocked in.
Did you know that 92.5 % of Monet's boats are exactly the same shape?
A boat.
By Monet.
I didn't know that either, until I learned this painting. Does that mean Monet couldn't paint boats? Not at all, he was a master draughtsman. But he knew how to tell a story in images, and these paintings are not really directed at the boating fanatic.
Student Paintings
I had a go at painting this from your book (Monet: Boats at Argenteuil), and really enjoyed the process. This is my result.
