Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' version 3
In of Van Gogh's most popular paintings we see how he applied his 'Language of Line' to the three stages of a sunflower's life.
Version 3 in Van Gogh's sunflower series is quite challenging as it requires you to:
- Paint 12 sunflowers
- Orient them correctly in space
- Paint the three stages of sunflower blooming: Freshly opened / Dry centre / No petals
His sunflower paintings are probably only second to "Starry Night" in popularity.
I recommend you paint 'version 1' first as it only contains three flowers. If you haven't painted flowers before this is also a good opportunity to learn how to visualise the basic cone shape of a flower and orient it in space.
