Reflection Pool, Canberra
This serene lake (Lake Nerang) features stunning reflections, and gives us the opportunity to practice trees, flower beds and perspective.
It's also a great lesson creating a satisfying painting from a photographic reference.

About this session
Yes Australia's capital city is not Sydney as you would think, but Canberra, about 4 hours down the Hume Highway!
I took this picture while visiting Floriade in 2014. This flower festival features extensive displays of flowering bulbs with integrated sculptures and other artistic features. It's held each September, and is definetely worth a visit.

Unusually for my method, we do sketch a couple of shapes on the canvas before blocking. The relationship of the arc and the horizon establish a strong composition.
